Easy Tai Chi – Qigong

This is a stationary style of Tai Chi for all ages that incorporates breathing with gentle simple movement to promote relaxation, improve circulation, stimulate neural pathways in the brain, strengthen core muscles, and build muscle stamina.

Easy Tai Chi was developed specifically for Parkinson’s patients. Because the moves are stationary, it is an ideal form of exercise for anyone that has balance issues. This class is a great way to get introduced to tai chi.

Class starts with 30 minutes of warm-up activities from the 4000-year-old practice of Qigong. The second half of class is the practice of stationary movements taken from the 2000-year-old practice of Tai Chi. Each movement is repeated 3-5 times to each side using either gentle forward-back or side-to-side rocking motions.

This class can be done sitting or with the support of a chair or walker if needed.

Trudy Sherman

In 1998, Trudy started taking Tai Chi classes with her mom who had had polio as a teenager. The long-term effects of the polio were now causing her mom trouble with both lung health and leg strength. After just 6 months of attending Tai Chi weekly, her mom was no longer using her cane to walk and had only had one bout of bronchitis. After 10 years of continued practice, and on-going evidence of the benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong, Trudy got certified to teach classes and now teaches various levels of Tai Chi classes.
