Healthy Holidays: Hydrate

Share this Post:

Now that you’ve strategized how you will tackle those holiday meal splurges, we need to think about how to keep those extra calories, carbs, and sugars from getting trapped in our bodies. Check out why our third tip is important to help keep you healthy throughout the holidays!

TIP #3 – HYDRATE

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but drink A LOT of water! That means each and every day you should be drinking your body weight in ounces of water.

Before going to an event, drink a large glass or bottle of water. This will fill up your stomach and help to curb your appetite.

Not only that, but since we are most likely indulging in foods we don’t normally eat, making sure we stay hydrated helps to keep our systems from getting bogged down with the extra calories, carbs, and sugars.

Drinking extra water supports our bodies in naturally detoxing all the “extra” stuff and can even help protect us from getting sick. A great way to up your water intake is to make infused waters. Not only do you get hydrated, but you can enjoy some of the benefits of the fruits or herbs that you use.

  • Citrus fruits will boost your immune system by adding some vitamin C. They also contain many compounds to help keep your heart healthy.
  • Ginger is loaded with antioxidants which help prevent stress. Plus it will give a little extra zing to your water.
  • Mint leaves in your water will make it extra refreshing. Mint can also help soothe your stomach and may even help ease headaches.

Let us know what combination sounds best to you in the comments below!
